December 2008
City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style. In the air, there's a feeling of--well, you get the idea! The holidays are upon us along with typical
end-of-year introspection.
Here at ThermoFab, we've been reflecting upon the last 12 months. It's been a great year, so we thought we'd share some of our favorite projects from 2008. You'll find them below.
We wish you and yours a joyful holiday season. And here's to a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2009!
Here Are a Few of Our Favorite Projects from 2008
Helping Mako Surgical Shine
Mako has created a small implant, delivered by a surgical robot. The robot can get into the specific compartment of the knee that needs replacement. It enters through a small incision. Ultimately, this procedure postpones and potentially eliminates the need for a full knee replacement. In addition, the Mako surgery allows for a new knee, and the patient can
walk out of the hospital on the same day. It's minimally invasive, meaning less pain for the patient. Plus, it saves the patient and hospital time and money in treatments and care.
We helped Mako with the manufacturing of the second-generation robot by enhancing the design to make it a sleeker and more service-friendly model. We also reviewed Mako's original designs and our expert engineers provided suggestions. We manufactured all of the coverings based on Mako's design and ensured that the fits and materials would work well in production. Mako needed 16 different parts that we were able to turn around in about 12 weeks--other shops would have required 12 weeks per part. Finally, our on-site paint shop allowed us to finish the product to specific color and silk-screening requirements. Read more about the Mako Surgical story here.
Delivering Expert Tooling for Corindus
Corindus designs, manufactures, & commercializes patented remote control systems for interventional cardiology. The company is currently developing its second-generation robot application--CorPath--which provides a guided catheter support system.
For this particular project, we worked with an outside design firm called Farm Design.
Many challenges existed when creating the thermoformed enclosure, including added detail in the
parts, lots of undercuts and action in the tool, and getting everything in the part that the client wanted. But we did it, and we--and the client--couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome.
Making Customers Happy--Our #1 Priority
It's easy for us to say our #1 priority is to make our customers happy. But why take our word for it? Here's a customer comment on a recent project we completed:
"We hired ThermoFab to design and manufacture a bezel for a high-end computing product. They took our ideas on 'the look' we were trying to achieve and designed a quality piece, from both a functional and aesthetic standpoint--it is beautiful.
"Nothing could have gone any better with this project. It was flawless. ThermoFab was responsive, had quick turn around and designed a bezel that clearly represented the qualities of our high-end product."
