The injection molding process uses plastic pellets or granules. The material is heated until a melt is obtained. The melted material is then injected into a split-die mold where it is allowed to cool and harden into the desired shape. Once hardened, the mold is opened and the part is ejected, at which time the cycle is repeated. Injection molding has a valuable place in plastics manufacturing. However, there are drawbacks and many situations in which thermoforming is a better solution.
For its flexibility in tooling and engineering and fast set-up and production of custom plastic enclosures – especially prototypes and large parts – thermoforming is commonly selected over injection molding. Clients routinely tell us that, after calling other thermoforming companies, ThermoFab truly offers volume options in the dozens to thousands - with the fastest turnaround.
But even here, at ThermoFab, injection molding has a place. Our injection molded internal components enhance the design appearance of your pressure formed assembly. The Milacron RoboShot 110 Ton Machine creates a Performance Under PressureSM manufacturing system which produces internal attachment components for pressure formed assemblies - - such as rectangular or cylindrical bosses. This system allows ThermoFab to create products in the time to market push that our clients require.
ThermoFab can convert your 3D injection files to finished parts in 4-6 weeks! Part volumes for production runs in the dozens to thousands are perfect for the ThermoFab modular interchangeable system which uses UL 94-5V fire rated materials.
